Features

Everything MailLoyal does

A full mail client for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android, built around your own mail server. Every feature on this page is free on every platform.

Setup

Accounts and setup

Sign in with an address and a password. MailLoyal works out the rest, and when it can’t, it says exactly why.

Email-first sign-in

Known providers are recognised as you type. An unknown domain gets one lookup for its published settings: Mozilla’s directory first, then your domain’s own autoconfig.

Built for cPanel

Tries mail., imap. and your domain itself on the secure ports, and signs in with the full address or the part before the @, whichever your server wants.

App passwords, guided

Step-by-step help for Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo and Fastmail, a button to the right page, and a check that the password is the right length.

Encrypted or nothing

SSL/TLS and STARTTLS are tried side by side. There is no unencrypted option anywhere in the app, and port 25 is never used.

Certificate decisions

A mismatched, expired or self-signed certificate is shown with its details and fingerprint. Trust covers that exact fingerprint, on that server only.

Connection checks

Eight named steps, from finding your server to listing folders, a fix for each kind of failure, and diagnostics you can copy with passwords removed.

Login templates

Save a host pattern, ports and security as a template to prefill new accounts, handy if you look after several mailboxes on one host.

Remove from this device

Removing an account deletes its cached mail and saved password from the device. Your mail stays on the server.

The Connecting screen: eight checks passed, from finding the server to listing folders.

Reading

Reading and organising

Fast, calm and safe to open.

All inboxes

Read every account in one list, or one account at a time.

Conversations

Replies are grouped into threads on your device, with a count on the row.

Search

Instant search over subjects, senders and the mail on your device, with Unread, Flagged and Has attachment filters, and a search of every folder on the server when nothing matches.

Swipe, select, undo

Swipe to archive or delete, long-press to select several, and undo what you didn’t mean.

Offline, then in sync

Mail you’ve opened is there without a connection. Flags, moves and deletions apply at once and are replayed on the server when you reconnect.

Safe HTML

Messages are rebuilt from an allowlist: no scripts, no frames, no forms, and no JavaScript anywhere.

Deceptive links

A link whose text shows one address but opens another asks before it goes anywhere.

Remote images, your call

Hidden in Spam until you allow them; hidden everywhere once you turn on Ask before loading images. Allow per message or per sender.

Block a sender

Future mail from them goes straight to Spam, by a rule kept on your device.

Dark mode for mail

Messages are recoloured for dark mode, with an Original colours switch.

Reading a three-message conversation about a wedding cake tasting.

Writing

Writing

Three views of one message, and a toolbox that stays out of the way.

Plain, formatted or HTML

Start in plain text, switch to formatting when you want it, or edit the HTML source. MailLoyal warns before a switch would lose anything, and a plain-text version always goes along.

A full toolbox

Headings, fonts and sizes, bold to subscript, text and highlight colours with a custom picker, alignment, lists, quotes, code, links, indents and a divider.

Insert and tools

Files, photos, the camera, emoji and today’s date; find and replace, a word count, and paste as plain text.

Recipients

Suggestions come from the addresses in your own mail. Your device’s address book is never read.

Undo send

Five seconds to take a message back, and an Outbox that keeps what couldn’t be sent and retries it safely.

Drafts that survive

Drafts are saved on the device as you write, even if the app is closed.

Attachment limits

A meter shows how much you’ve attached against your server’s own limit, before you press Send.

Compose from anywhere

On Android, mailto: links and sharing open a new message. On iPhone and iPad, the Compose Email shortcut works with Siri and Shortcuts (iOS 16 or later).

Writing a formatted email, with the editor toolbox under the subject and a signature attached.

Signatures

Signatures

Designed signatures that survive the trip, with or without AI.

As many as you like

Each with HTML and plain-text versions. Choose defaults for new messages, replies and forwards, and pick any signature while writing.

Six built-in layouts

Logo card, Classic, Stacked, Inline, Accent bar and Minimal, in a professional, friendly or minimal tone. They work offline and need no key.

AI designs

With your own key, three designs per request, and Update with AI to change one in your own words.

Send by email

Send up to 20 signatures to yourself or someone else in a designed email. The other side reviews them before anything is added.

Safe to receive

Only the small attached file is read, hidden text is made visible, the logo stays hidden until you allow it, and a received signature never becomes a default by itself.

Move between devices

Share a file with AirDrop or Nearby Share, save it, or copy it to the clipboard, then import it on the other device.

Generating a signature: tone choices and six built-in layouts that need no AI key.

AI assistant

AI assistant, optional

Off until you turn it on, on your own key, and it never sends anything for you.

Your key, your provider

Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI. Your key is stored in the device’s keychain and requests go straight to the provider; MailLoyal has no AI service of its own.

Draft a reply

Write a few notes in any language and choose a tone (Professional, Formal, Warm, Direct) and a length. The draft can use up to six earlier messages of that conversation, which you can switch off per draft.

Write with AI

Turn notes into a new email. It sends your notes, the subject and recipients’ display names, and no mail from your mailbox.

Six writing tools

Improve writing, Make it shorter, Fix spelling and grammar, Change tone, Translate, and Update with your own instruction. One Undo restores your text.

Four separate consents

Signatures, reply drafting, writing new emails and the writing tools each have their own switch. Changing provider asks again.

You press Send

Drafts land in the editor. Gaps the AI couldn’t fill are highlighted in [brackets], and Send asks before they go out.

What is never sent

Your mail password, your contacts, your folder list and other conversations. People appear by display name, never by email address.

The privacy policy lists exactly what each AI feature sends: section 3.3.

A reply drafted with AI, waiting in the editor for the user to read and send.

Notifications

Notifications

Made on your device, from mail it fetched. There is no push server, and no third party learns when your mail arrives.

Android: within seconds

MailLoyal keeps a connection to your server open, so new mail arrives within seconds. Android allows this for six hours a day; then MailLoyal checks every 15 minutes until you next open it.

iPhone and iPad: Fetch

iOS decides when apps may check for mail, typically every 15–60 minutes, and never in Low Power Mode. For instant mail on iOS, keep MailLoyal open.

Mac

MailLoyal checks for mail while it is open; notifications stop when you quit it.

Per account

All new mail, VIPs only or nothing, with sound and vibration choices, quiet hours and an unread badge.

Actions

Mark read or Archive straight from the notification.

Settings: accounts, default login settings, appearance, language, notifications and the AI assistant.

Privacy

Privacy and security

We cannot read your mail. We have no infrastructure that could.

No account, no server

Nothing to sign up for. Your accounts exist only on the device you set them up on.

The keychain, only

Mail passwords and API keys live in the iOS or macOS Keychain or the Android Keystore, never in the database, preferences or a log.

Redacted diagnostics

Passwords and sign-in payloads are removed before a diagnostic line is even created, so a copied report cannot leak them.

No MailLoyal analytics

No analytics or crash-reporting service of our own is built in. On iPhone, iPad and Android, Google’s ad software sends Google the data set out in the privacy policy.

Contacts stay yours

Your address book is never read, and a photo reaches MailLoyal only when you pick it.

No certificate shortcuts

There is no “ignore certificate errors” switch. A certificate that can’t be verified is shown to you, every time.

Appearance

Appearance, layout and languages

Your colours, your language, your screen.

Eight accents and 24 hues

Viridian, Teal, Harbour, Indigo, Plum, Rose, Ember and Moss, or any of 24 custom hues, all tuned for readable contrast.

Four themes

Follow your device, or choose Light, Dark or Black, a true black for OLED screens.

Text size and density

Text from 85% to 130%, and a comfortable or compact message list, with a live preview.

47 languages

Following your device or chosen in Settings. Arabic, Hebrew and Urdu lay out right to left, and each email keeps its own direction.

iPad and Mac layouts

On a wide screen, the message list sits beside the open message, with ⌘N to write, ⌘F to search and Esc to go back.

Bundled typefaces

Plus Jakarta Sans and Inter ship inside the app, so it fetches no fonts from anywhere.

Appearance settings: theme, eight accents, a custom hue, text size and list density.
